About this build

This Maybach S680 came through our Los Angeles studio as a platform build — panel-by-panel prep stays the same across body styles — wash, decontaminate, align, install. The matte finish is the call when the owner wants the car to read low-profile under daylight and refuse to flash highlights at night. Single-service builds like this one keep the install schedule tight and let the owner add the next layer later if the use case changes.

This flagship luxury sedan was refinished in matte grey protective film to create a more understated exterior while preserving the original paint underneath. The color has a technical character that suits the long proportions of the car without relying on strong reflectivity. On a body this large and refined, panel balance matters more than aggressive styling, so the installation had to stay clean and measured from front to rear. Every section was aligned to keep the tone and texture consistent. The strongest visual effect sits across the rear doors and extended quarter panels.

What we used on this Maybach

Why this finish was the right call

Color PPF lets the owner change the look of the car without losing factory paint underneath. Strip the film years later and the original finish is still the original finish — that is the entire point of choosing colour PPF over a wrap or a respray. The pigmented urethane is heavier than cast vinyl, holds sharper edges around shut-lines, and self-heals the same way clear PPF does.

In Los Angeles specifically, color PPF makes sense for two kinds of owner: the long-hold collector who wants a finish that survives a decade of garage time, and the short-hold lease driver who wants a colour shift today and a clean turn-in tomorrow. Both end up at the same spec sheet.

What to expect after the install
