About this build

This Tesla Model Y came through our Los Angeles studio as a electric platform build — EV-specific spec considerations come into play: glass curvature, charge-port edges, and the way battery heat moves through the cabin all factor into the install plan. The matte finish is the call when the owner wants the car to read low-profile under daylight and refuse to flash highlights at night. Single-service builds like this one keep the install schedule tight and let the owner add the next layer later if the use case changes.

This Tesla Model Y was finished in matte black Color PPF — a full exterior transformation from factory white to stealth satin black, with the film doing double duty as paint protection underneath. The finish looks like matte paint without the factory warranty risk.

Matte PPF needs a dust-free bay and slow squeegee passes so the matte texture stays uniform — any dirt trapped under film shows up as a bright dot. We wrapped edges behind the tailgate glass and under the rocker panels for a continuous look. See our matte PPF vs matte vinyl guide for the longevity comparison, or browse similar paint protection builds from the shop.

What we used on this Tesla

Why this finish was the right call

Color PPF lets the owner change the look of the car without losing factory paint underneath. Strip the film years later and the original finish is still the original finish — that is the entire point of choosing colour PPF over a wrap or a respray. The pigmented urethane is heavier than cast vinyl, holds sharper edges around shut-lines, and self-heals the same way clear PPF does.

In Los Angeles specifically, color PPF makes sense for two kinds of owner: the long-hold collector who wants a finish that survives a decade of garage time, and the short-hold lease driver who wants a colour shift today and a clean turn-in tomorrow. Both end up at the same spec sheet.
